Patricia, thank you for expressing what many of us are holding in our heart ❤️ you’ve put it in print and somehow that helps us all connect with the good and the light and love as Reality expressed. Jan k
Patricia, thank you for sharing your story of your father’s passion as well as your enlightening insight on the reality of love that’s working out on our planet.
I love what you shared here and the way you shared it. A perfect example of the juxtaposition of the state of the outward world these days. Love always shines through the darkness. Bless you for your wise insights. Love Alice
This writing is so utterly beautiful, and simply the truth. In the midst of all the chaos and noise and terror on offer each day, your words cut thru all of it and went straight arrow into my heart as I read them.
Deep gratitude for this article. Here's to the Light winning over all the darkness.
Patricia, so beautifully written. Why must we individually, as a country and as all the countries in the world go through this period with all the hate, and than I remember, what is, is. What do I learn from what is. My job is to love and when I'm not there, remember to return. I'm working on a poem Understanding Love. When I finish it, I'll send you a copy. Thank you so much for what you do!!! Love and blessings always... Gretchen
Hi, Patricia. Thanks so much for the reminder that there is a different and broader perspective from which to view the current chaos, and that it is REAL.
I must take issue with you, however. While what you say is true, it not only does not include, but actively dismisses, the equal truth that there is horrible suffering in the world which is JUST AS REAL. Not UNREAL, as you imply. Yes, all this chaos is based on error, smoke and mirrors, deception, the projection of the human shadow due to humanity’s inability to own their own darkness, etc. etc. But we live inside the human experience we are having. If my children are starving, I am dying because I cannot get medical treatment, I have no home, and there are soldiers raping me, the “it is not real” placebo gives me ZERO consolation. Maybe you think that’s because I’m just not capable of raising my consciousness to your exalted level of “reality” so that I too could stop suffering because my experience is, in fact, “unreal.”
But I dare you to be in the middle of it and deny its reality. By saying, in essence, “there, there, this isn’t real; it’s all going ‘poof’ go away, because only that which is real lasts,” you are soothing those who are safe on their couches.
Yes, we must hold the awareness that all the dark is “unreal,” but until humanity as a whole recognizes and embraces its own greed, cruelty, and ugliness as ITSELF, all the suffering you are trying to console us for will remain the lived experience of everyone who does not feel safe enough. If I am being raped, or starved, or watching my loved ones suffer, THAT IS A LIVED REALITY. It is just as real as the perspective you are offering. It is a truth, and it is MY truth. Even if I am an enlightened being who knows from experience that there is a perspective from which my suffering is not experienced as suffering (which, I think, is what you mean by “not real”), WHEN IT IS my experience, it IS real.
To say otherwise is false, disrespectful, and a bit smug.
That does not mean that I think you are wrong! I certainly believe you are right in your explanation. I take comfort in knowing that the upheaval current times is necessary. I am speaking up for a larger and more inclusive view of what “reality” is - one that fosters attuning to the suffering and creating a field to bear the unbearable with others, rather than just relaxing into a “this isn’t real” inertia, as if it were TV. We will not get through this without sharing the burden of suffering - our own and that of others.
(“Suffer,” in its original sense, meant “allow,” as when Jesus said “Suffer the little children….” We don’t have to like the agony we see and feel; we just need to acknowledge it, not turn away, keep our hearts as open as we can, and not dismiss it as “unreal.” OH: almost forgot the most important things: do our own shadow work, and create supportive community.)
Dear Hannah, thank you for your thoughtful comment. And actually, I quite agree with you. I know that people are experiencing suffering and deep fear, and it is not my intention or desire to discount or dismiss that. On this human plane we do suffer the effects of the cruelty that is born of deep ignorance and unconsciousness, and keeping our hearts open to the victims of that ignorance is of paramount importance.
Several decades ago I accompanied a woman in Guatemala whose husband had been abducted, tortured and killed by the military, which was supported by the US government. When she also began receiving death threats, individuals from the US and Canada volunteered to stay with her and accompany her so that it would be clear to those trying to intimidate her that the international community was aware of her situation and was watching.
It was an eye-opening experience to accompany her and witness the deep fear she endured every day. So yes, I know that everything that is playing out right now has consequences that people very much experience as a lived reality.
That said, I have also had powerful spiritual experiences (as you probably have as well) that have shown me that the nature of Ultimate Reality is absolute Love. My desire in this very challenging time is to do my best to be the presence of that Love in whatever ways I can, including being in solidarity with those who are suffering.
I don't know if you have read some of my other posts and podcast, but here are a couple you might be interested in checking out.
